Barracuda Networks, Inc., a leading provider of security and storage solutions, continues its momentum. According to the IDC Worldwide Purpose-Built Backup Appliance (PBBA) Tracker, Barracuda has shipped the highest volume of integrated systems in the past year, which includes Q3 and Q4 of 2015 and Q1 and Q2 of 2016. IDC defines integrated systems as solutions that have a data movement engine with the appliance, as opposed to a target system that serves as only a target for incoming backup application data. Barracuda has been ranked number one in Integrated Purpose-Built Backup Appliance units shipped for the 18th consecutive quarter with 30 percent market share for the past year.

Customers continue to select Barracuda’s end-to-end backup solution for its seamless integration into existing infrastructures and ease of use. Barracuda provides customers with industry-leading features like offsite vaulting, which removes monthly and yearly revisions from the local appliance and stores them offsite, extending the life of local appliances. In addition, Barracuda customers benefit from Barracuda’s best-in-class inline deduplication, reducing the backup storage footprint while shortening backup and replication times.

“Barracuda Backup provides us with a secure way to store critical data, and an efficient way to recover it if things don’t go as planned – such as recently when we were hit with a ransomware attack,” said A.J. Murray, IT Manager at Hayward Tyler, a leader in design, manufacturing and services for fluid-filled electric motors and pumps for high-pressure, high-temperature applications and environments across the global energy sector. “A solid backup plan makes the difference in having to pay a ransom, lose files all together or recover them in a timely fashion. With Barracuda Backup, we were able to quickly restore our stolen data, allowing us to address this attack with minimal business impact.”

Barracuda recently announced significant updates to its Barracuda Backup product line, including new subscription pricing and updates to two large-scale models – increasing deployment flexibility for customers operating in physical, virtual, cloud, and hybrid environments.

  • Barracuda Backup Version 6.3 - Barracuda Backup now enables faster data recovery with significantly increased replication speeds and restore performance, helping customers improve recovery time objectives.
  • Public Cloud Integration - Barracuda continues its cloud innovation with Barracuda Cloud-toCloud Backup for Office 365 improvements, and the expanded Barracuda Backup Export Tool that now supports exporting data to Amazon Web Services (AWS) for long-term retention.
  • Upgraded Capacity and Reduced Prices - The Barracuda Backup 990 appliance upgraded to 48TB of usable storage, representing a capacity increase of 33 percent and making it one of the most affordable backup solutions at its capacity level. Additionally, the Barracuda Backup 995 and 1090 appliances and subscription list prices have been reduced.

“Barracuda Backup provides customers with an easy way to protect their data in a single solution, while our Energize Updates and Instant Replacement subscriptions ensure customers continue to see ongoing value as technology evolves,” said Rod Mathews, SVP & GM, Data Protection at Barracuda. “We’ve made a number of enhancements with this software release to significantly improve the performance and functionality of existing systems deployed by our customers. Whether customers are looking to improve their disaster recovery plans, speed up their backups or expand on public cloud initiatives – Barracuda Backup simplifies that process with innovative technology that is secure, easy to use and affordable, regardless of deployment choice.”

About the IDC PBBA Tracker

IDC’s Worldwide Quarterly Purpose-Built Backup Appliance Tracker provides vendor share, market size, and forecasts for purpose-built backup appliances. IDC provides key market insights and growth for vendors participating in the PBBA market as well as those that may introduce new products. Revenue and capacity for disk systems behind PBBA gateways are included in the PBBA market sizing and also in the forecast. Some PBBA solutions integrate the data movement engine (backup application) with the appliance, while others serve as only a target for incoming backup application data. Both solutions are included in the PBBA market sizing, although segmentation between the two product categories is provided.
